Pulmonary Support Protocol

Some of the most common health concerns during the fall and winter months involve immune and pulmonary health. Consequently, many people take a greater interest in being proactive about their health at this time of year. Healthcare practitioners can assist patients by making recommendations based on the strongest research and science.
As a pulmonologist working in critical-care medicine, Roger Seheult, MD, has seen firsthand that supporting immune and pulmonary health through the fall and winter seasons requires more than a handful of supplements every day. It also requires a commitment to a lifestyle that supports all levels of health.
Like all body systems, the immune and respiratory systems rely on sound nutrition for proper function. Sugar is known to interfere with immune function, and therefore should be kept to a minimum.
Dr. Seheult believes dietary supplements can be an excellent way to help optimize nutrient intake and further support a healthy diet. His favorite nutrients for immune and respiratory health support include vitamin D, vitamin C, n-acetylcysteine (NAC), quercetin, and zinc.
As a sleep specialist, Dr. Seheult reports that sleep deprivation is known to interfere with immune function. A study of healthy men and women found that those who slept less than five hours per night were at a significantly greater risk of getting the common cold than those who slept more than seven hours per night.
Through his research on simple and accessible ways to support immune and respiratory health, Dr. Seheult has developed an approach he calls “WANT REST.” This mnemonic details eight everyday habits to maintain resilience and strength not only during the fall and winter months, but year-round and includes these important lifestyle tips in this exclusive expert protocol he is sharing with the Wellevate community: Pulmonary Support Protocol.
